Launch48 wants mentors to bring a wealth of advice to the event, and therefore we screen our mentors carefully.  Qualities we look for in a mentor include:

1. Ability to engage with groups of people
2. Self-starters who are keen to help
3. People who are actively mentoring and assisting entrepreneurs
4. Successful entrepreneurs with experience and knowledge that will help Launch48 attendees

If you do want to pitch, it is best if you cover the following points:

1. Name
2. The Idea and the problem it is solving
3. Business model and monetisation strategy
4. The target market & competitors

If you do pitch your idea please keep in mind this event is about learning and networking, we encourage you to share your ideas but please do realise that Launch48 cannot offer any protection for your ideas or what other people will do with them.

Each chosen business idea is called out and attendees who want to participate in the current business idea come forward.  Launch48 encourages attendees to evenly distribute themselves across the different groups, for example if all the developers go with one idea then the other ideas are likely to not have enough developers, and the developers are not going to have as much opportunity to work on an idea.

People can always move groups after they have joined one group.  This often occurs because:

1. A team is missing a key skill
2. Someone wants to move teams
3. Someone’s skills would be better used by another team

Each group should decide during the event how they want to distribute ownership and the intellectual property across the team.

Some examples of what has previously happened at Launch48 events include:

• Teams have licensed their IP under open source/creative commons allowing anyone to continue using the IP for their own purposes
• Teams have formed companies and transferred ownership of the IP to the company
• Teams have decided to do nothing and leave the event each having a right to the IP they created during the event

If you need to leave, please speak with your group and ensure they are aware.  It is recommended you help your group to plan for your leave and try to deliver any tasks you have been given before leaving so the group can launch their business on Sunday.

Launch48 encourages teams to continue to run by offering a follow-up event for attendees of the Launch48 Weekend.  The follow-up event encourages teams to keep working and present their progress since the Launch48 Weekend to their peers, mentors, speakers, and investors.

It is hoped all groups will go on to become successful businesses, and we try to assist groups by giving them lots of helpful advice and guidance from the begining through the life of their business.

If you believe you idea has value, we would recommend you do not pitch it as attendees are not asked to sign an NDA by Launch48.

During the Launch48 Conference on Friday there will opportunities for people to practice their pitch and receive feedback from past Launch48 attendees and speakers/mentors. Make your pitch as compelling as you can, and covers the points other people would want to know.

Unfortunately because of the number of pitches we are expecting and the short amount of time, we cannot have people use powerpoint but if you want to use paper/card/drawings/printouts you may as they have zero setup time!
